Token Merging for Multilingual Speech Recognition: A Systematic Study Across Model Scale and Fine-Tuning

This paper presents a systematic evaluation of token merging for multilingual speech recognition, focusing on the Whisper model family across 16 languages and three model sizes. The study shows that token merging improves computational efficiency with minimal impact on transcription accuracy, even after fine-tuning on low-resource languages.
