Do Existing Preconditioners Improve Biomedical Tabular Foundation Learning? An Empirical Study on TabPFN Optimization

The study investigates the effectiveness of AdamW-based preconditioning strategies for fine-tuning TabPFN v2.5 on biomedical datasets. Results show that the original AdamW optimizer outperforms curvature-aware preconditioners in predictive performance and statistical significance across diverse biomedical tasks.
