A Leakage-Aware Multimodal Evaluation Framework for Early Intraoperative Acute Kidney Injury Prediction

This study introduces SynerT, a temporal model for early intraoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) prediction using waveform data, and two multimodal extensions, SynerT-MM and SynerTStack, which integrate clinical context. Evaluations on VitalDB showed that SynerT performed worse than structured-data baselines, but SynerT-MM and SynerTStack achieved better results, with SynerTStack showing the best overall performance. Calibration and clinical benefit were improved through cross-fitted Platt recalibration.

WHY IT MAY MATTER

This framework helps improve early AKI prediction by integrating multimodal data and addressing data leakage, which is crucial for reliable clinical decision-making.
