Bayes-Sufficient Compression Is Not Enough: How Does Communication Help Multi-Agent Systems?

The paper explores how communication between multi-agent LLM systems affects decision-making, introducing a framework called receiver-relative bounded coordination to evaluate message utility. It finds that while compression can be beneficial, it may fail if the executor cannot utilize the compressed information effectively, and sender upgrades only help when the receiver's burden is sufficiently high.
