Freeze the Decoder, Heal the Encoder: Parameter-Efficient Adaptation for SVD-Based KV-Cache Compression

The study shows that comparing parameter-efficient tuning methods with a shared learning rate can introduce bias when the methods have different numbers of trainable parameters. The authors demonstrate that freezing the decoder and only healing the encoder does not provide a real advantage when individual learning rates are used. The method offers memory savings and is an effective solution for KV-cache compression.
