ECHOES: Seeing Beyond the Current Image via Recursive History Compression and Privileged On-Policy Distillation

The study proposes ECHOES, a method that leverages training-time privileged information to improve textual history compression and enhance long-horizon reasoning. The method uses a Compression-Think-Action (CTA) format for recursive updating of textual history and reasoning. ECHOESBMK, a diagnostic benchmark, is introduced to evaluate visual perception and cross-modal state retention.
