The Expensive-Loop Problem

LLMs excel at tasks with tight and legible feedback loops, known as 'cheap-loop' domains. However, they perform poorly in 'expensive-loop' domains, where reward evaluation is time-consuming and resource-intensive. This is because these domains require skills not developed in cheap-loop training, such as selecting proxies and managing resources.
