Removing Timing Shortcuts Improves Non-Invasive Brain-to-Text Decoding

The study reveals that significant improvements in decoding words from non-invasive brain recordings can be achieved without using actual brain data. By modifying the approach to process each word window independently instead of jointly encoding all windows in a sentence, the method (SimpleB2T) improves performance by leveraging word-specific information from brain recordings, achieving a word error rate of 36.6% with five observations per word.
