Towards Proactive Detection of User-Side Implicit Conflicts in Human-LLM Dialogue

The paper addresses user-side implicit conflicts in human-LLM dialogue, where follow-up user inputs may conflict with earlier intents, causing LLMs to misinterpret user needs. It introduces UC-Bench, a human-annotated benchmark for evaluating conflict detection, and proposes SynUC, a constraint-guided data synthesis method to improve lightweight LLMs' performance on this task.

WHY IT MAY MATTER

This research addresses a critical gap in dialogue systems by focusing on user-side conflicts, which are often overlooked. It introduces a new benchmark and a novel data synthesis method to improve LLMs' ability to detect and handle such conflicts, enhancing the reliability of human-LLM interactions.
