Stable and Faithful Explanations for Knowledge Tracing

This study introduces a validation protocol for knowledge tracing (KT) models to assess predictive accuracy, explanation stability, and faithfulness. It compares an XGBoost model using TreeSHAP explanations with deep learning baselines, finding that model performance differences stem from information availability rather than model type. The research highlights the importance of feature engineering and data reconstruction in KT tasks.
